STABLE Event’s third education building forum in Scotland – which took place near Edinburgh in April 2022 – drew top-level speakers from across the educational establishment, as well as a lively group of leading architects, university estate managers, education civil servants, Hub representatives and other senior figures and key stakeholders.
The theme of this year’s Forum Seminars was “New challenges, New Developments post-Covid”.
Stephen Garvin, Head of Building Standards, Scottish Government: Building Standards Division, spoke about recent advances in building standards, and discussed the ongoing reviews of energy and fire safety standards and what this might mean for the design and construction of education buildings.
Jamie Goth, Associate Director, Scottish Futures Trust, talked about the Scottish Government’s Net Zero Public Sector Buildings Standard and explained how to get involved in this voluntary sustainability scheme.
Jonathan Hines, Managing Director, Architype, talked about Architype’s Passivhaus and EnerPHit Projects in Scotland, with particular focus on the firm’s work for the City of Edinburgh’s educational estate.
Martin Jarvie, Architect Associate, BDP discussed reuse and adaptation policy with particular emphasis on the Learning and Teaching Building, Glasgow, which was commissioned by the University of Strathclyde and which demonstrates how unloved and deteriorated buildings can be cleverly adapted to deliver a transformational change in student experience.
Cherie Morgan, Director of Projects, PlayScotland, talked about maximising community assets to engage with children and young people in primary and secondary schools.
Diana O’Monteiro, Senior Acoustics Consultant, AECOM, discussed acoustics design considerations for schools.
And Andrew Hall, Programme Manager – Learning Estate, Moray Council, discussed the Moray Learning Estate Strategy and gave an overview of its ambitious delivery programme, which will see the council’s 53 primary and secondary schools transition to be fit for purpose, sustainable, digitally connected and net zero over the next 10 years
“Well organised. I thought the Stable Events Team were great and so was the scale of event. Suppliers often find it difficult to connect with specifiers and influencers, but ebf Scotland presented them with exactly this opportunity.”
Scott Brownrigg
“A great event with a very good mix of people. The organisers did well to keep things ticking over.”
University of Edinburgh
“Ebf Scotland 2022 was a really interesting and informative event – and a very useful networking event.”
Moray Council
“I really enjoyed meeting so many interesting people and it was my pleasure to be there. Thank you!”
Aecom
“Excellent forum.”
BDP Architects
“As always with Stable Events, the organisation and attention to detail was excellent. The meetings with buyer delegates were mostly very positive, with several good prospects for tendering for projects during the next few years.”
Collinson Construction
“This event, although smaller than your other events, is excellent as you get to see a high calibre of delegates. The events are so well organised and this makes for good business.”
